The Phone app on Wear OS is what makes telephony possible whether its via Bluetooth or standalone over an LTE-connected smartwatch. Next, Google’s Phone app has been added to the Play Store on Wear OS to make updates to the app easier and more frequent. ![]() There are Tiles for both “Forecast” and “UV Index”, and two complications are available showing “UV Index” and “Weather”. Once the permission is granted, it displays weather information from, UV index, precipitation, and forecasts for the next 8 hours, and then the next 5 days. Unfortunately, the upgrade doesn’t transport much by way of new functionality, but it does bring support for Android Wear, in addition to a multitude of new bug fixes and stability improvements. The app is bare bones and only shows Weather of the wearer’s current location. There’s a new Weather app for Wear OS 3 smartwatches. The Phone, Fitbit, and Weather apps are all being updated ahead of the new wearable’s launch event. You can even file your own report if you find some great conditions at a spot that is not well reported.Ahead of Google’s hardware event, updates are now rolling out to some core Wear OS apps that we are expecting to see on the Pixel Watch. In addition to detailed surf reports, the app includes eyewitness data to show up-to-the-minute information on the surf conditions at a particular break. You can even share the reports via Twitter or by email if you're trying to entice friends to surf with you.Ĭoasting, free on iOS, is a fabulous alternative that uses an even simpler set of graphs and symbols to show the wave conditions.įor a more traditional surf report app that has an element of crowdsourced reporting, check out Magicseaweed's Surf Forecast. All the information is displayed through clear graphics and simple statistics. The app provides the day's swell, wind conditions and tide times for your location, as well as a basic weather report. If your idea of a great beach day is more about surfboards, winds and tides, then you will probably prefer an app like Oakley's Surf Report. Like to sit back in the sand and soak up a book? The well-known e-reader apps like Kindle (free on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry), Apple's own free iBooks app and Nook are great for beach reading. The app is a little ugly, and sometimes it can be hard to spot the information, but the price is nice for information from a reliable source. The app shows the UV index for a location, and has advice on what clothing to wear for the conditions and so on. If WeatherPro is too technical, but you would still like a UV index app, then the Environmental Protection Agency has SunWise UV Index. The app is also available in a slightly simpler format at $3 for Windows Phone, iPhone, BlackBerry and Android phones. Best of all, it indicates the UV index for your location, which can help you limit your skin's exposure to damaging ultraviolet rays. WeatherPro is useful whether you are planning to chill out by the sea or try something more sporty like windsurfing. More detailed forecasts for the week ahead, like wind speeds, appear below the summary as easy-to-read graphics. Just type in your location, and the app shows a weather summary at the top of the screen. The app is crammed with detailed weather information, yet it displays the data so clearly that a mere glance at the app can convey how sunny or windy it is at your favorite beach spot. WeatherPro, $4 on iPad and Android tablets, is great at telling you what to expect before you leave home. The weather, of course, plays a major role. But before you go, make sure you've downloaded the apps you need to make your day at the beach the best it can be.
